BOUND

Background

Bound was released on the 4th of October 1996. The film was directed by the Wachowski sisters, who also did The Matrix.

Plot

Corky, a lesbian ex-con artist, moves into an apartment building she is called to renovate. She lives next to the apartment of Violet and her boyfriend Caesar, who is a member of the mafia. Violet becomes infatuated with Corky and confesses she wants nothing more to do with Caesar as she finds comfort in Corky and embracing her sexuality. Together they plan to steal $2 million in blood money from Caesar and escape together.

Main Characters

Corky (Gina Gershon)

Violet (Jennifer Tilly)

Caesar (Joe Pantoliano)

Corky is smart and cunning. Her work as an ex-thief helps in stealing the money from Caesar as she details her plan to Violet.

Violet's key character feature is her ability to be infatuating, because she's dedicated to seducing Corky in the beginning of the movie. She's also very timid around Caesar, showing how badly she wants to be free of him.

Caesar is a nightmare. He is one of the leading members of the Marzoni mafia, and we can see through the movie that he's a complete psychopath. He also has his weaknesses, because he gets very nervous around Gino Marzoni and the police.

Thoughts

This movie is the epitome of "be gay do crimes". I love that the Wachowskis pushed for Corky to stay female, because they claimed that Corky as a man was a movie that "had been done several times." They also consulted someone to help with the sex scenes in the movie, Susie Bright, which makes me appreciate the sex scenes much more than wanting to skip them than I usually do with other movies. Bound is a top favourite movie of all time for me, because I want to find more movies that are like mafia or action movies, but gay.
