Plot
The Matrix (1999)
Thomas Anderson, hacker alias Neo, works at a computer company. He seeks out the truth beyond his mundane life and becomes infatuated with the concept of The Matrix. He seeks out Morpheus to find the way out of The Matrix and is subsequently told he can save humanity from the Agents, a spreading virus intended to keep The Matrix perfect and ensure no one escapes.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
With his newfound powers awakened, Neo travels to the city of Zion with the new Nebuchadnezzar crew. He is told by the Oracle that he will be needed to save Zion from attack from the Machine Army. He seeks out help from the Keymaker, who is held captive by the Merovingian, to receive the key to the Architect.
The Matrix Revolutions (2003)
The end of Zion is nigh, and Agent Smith has transported his figure into Bane, an inhabitant of Zion. Neo is trapped in The Matrix and has to escape to sacrifice himself to win the Machine War, as well as rid The Matrix of Agent Smith once and for all.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
After The Matrix has been reset and time has passed, Neo's memory is wiped and now works as Thomas Anderson for a video game company, where he creates a game called The Matrix, detailing his past within the game without even knowing. He is shocked when the characters from his game start appearing in his real life, and he's needed to prevent the end of The Matrix once again.
Main Characters
Neo/Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) |
Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) |
Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) |
Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) |
Neo is our main protagonist. In the first and fourth films, he is somewhat jovial and nervous, but by the second and third movies, he turns into a serious fun sponge. |
Trinity is the love interest of Neo, and she shouldn't be reduced to just that, as she is an amazing character that deserves every happy ending. Maybe she should've been The One in the first place... oh, wait- |
Morpheus leads people out of The Matrix and into the real world. What he didn't tell us, however, is that the real world sucks. |
Smith is a terrifying spreading entity who insists on calling Neo "Mr. Anderson" just cause it pisses him off. No, he wasn't played by Jonathan Groff in the fourth movie, that was a collective fever dream. |
Oracle (Gloria Foster/Mary Alice) |
Niobe (Jada Pinkett-Smith) |
||
On the one hand, the Oracle is the all-knowing advice-giver of The Matrix whose intention is to help Neo. On the other hand, she speaks in riddles so I don't think she's a reliable source. |
Counterpart to Trinity, deep history with Morpheus. I'm surprised her and Trinity didn't interact more, they could've been a total dream team. |
Thoughts
The Matrix is a good franchise, and I mostly ignore the third and fourth movie because they're that boring/disappointing. Although, you can't ignore that this movie has a grip on everyone, regardless if they admire the plastic latex fashion or if their a degenerate who believes that the "red pill" will "free you from the brainwashed liberal mindset". Wait until those people find out The Matrix is a trans allegory.
